Yes, it's starting to act up again.  I've opened a new ticket with our webhost to have them investigate the mysql instance.  I think someone else on the server is unintentionally abusing mysql.

I'll keep ya posted!

UPDATE:  I heard back from the server administrator yesterday.  He had this to say:

There were a few websites that were causing abnormal load. We have suspended them now and the load should now be back down now. We will keep monitoring the server to make sure it will run ok.
