I know that the game (obviously) checks the server status when it starts up, but there is still a chance that the error is on the user side.  Would it be possible to have a game server status indicator on either the main website (questrpg.org) or here on the forums?  This would be 100% independent of the users computer, so it would make it clear what the problem is.

A photo hosting website I use has this feature (it uses an independent website so users can see if the site is down if they can't log in) and it is very useful.  Not sure how easy it would be to implement though...

Oh LOL.  OK, so it seems I'm not the first one to ask?  Perhaps it should be in a more prominant spot, perhaps in its own section above the "news box", and it has to be spelled out.  Even if I would have seen that I wouldn't have know WTF QMS status was...

hey i think i said this same thing in another topic. And MB said the same thing, without the image, and i said it would be better on the main page, and then Jackhammer pulled a Jon_Deciple (ya i am now the term for doing somthing... lol?)

Anyways, i still say that the status should be on the main page, no link just text on the page.

Also (i already said this too) the text in that box should be cleaned up a bit cuz its kinda confusing

maybe somthing like:

Quewst Main Page
Download Quest 4.3.0
Check the server status

each line could be a link. Wouldnt be hard to do... might keep us noobs from asking the same question over and over lol.

*edit*

ya thats what im on about i didnt know either. I thought it was somthing for the mods. my wording would be a LOT easier to understand

could have tried to click it Smiley

Quest Master Server (I think) lol
and it should be online all the time ... so no need for a prominent link if you ask me *cough*

I e-mailed Jouser btw to ask why it's down ...
I also wrote a script that can send an e-mail every hour when the server is down.
Maybe he's interested in that Smiley

I hope you don't mean a script that e-mails jouser every hour its down..I'd hate to see his Inbox if thats the case Tongue Then again every hour isnt too many emails as long as its not down for long

How about something like this?

News Box moved down a litte, "keys stats" moved over into the "user info" part"
Yes, its a horrible job, I did it in MS Paint because I was too lazy to open PS  Grin

Yes I know it is there already, but it is definitely not noticeable enough.

(my internet is sucking right now, should have pic uploaded very soon  Sad

The boxes in this forum can handle html
The online checker I made does it in php.
I could try to include something but it's really not worth the hassle.

You just have to click the link
Don't be a lazy *cough* lol

Also it's now active that if either the game or forum goes down it mails Jouser like mad Smiley
So downtimes will most likely be fixed much quicker

Glad to know my name is being used as a discription of doing somthing stupid... lol.

And i think the problem may be solved by changing the HTML of the info box to be like this:

I just think it would make everything soo much easier to understand.

Oh and with the server going offline tomorrow and the next day, that means jouser is going to get 48 e-mails?!? i dont get that much mail in a month, let alone in 2 days lol. Maybe you should suspend the mailings for this skedualed downtime  Shocked  Oh also, i dont believe it was laziness that caused Jjonn to write this thread, rather lack of knowledge...

... Even if I would have seen that I wouldn't have know WTF QMS status was...

Theres my point. Whos pulling a "Jon_Deciple" now? lol jk  Wink

When you start the client, what does it say on top?
"Searching for quest master server...'
"server found. checking to see if your version is acceptable..."
"quest master server is allowing your version.."

I only would have thought that QMS would have been obvious, seeing as how everyday the players of quest use abbreviations. (lol, lmao, wth, wtf, rofl, brb, afk, afq, bbq) If you understood that, i would have hoped that you would have understood QMS. The top 25 lists also say QMS.

Yes, but there is a decent chance it could be a problem on the user end if that server check fails.
