Has it ever been thought of to implement experience/gold altering items/racial skills into the game? I think this would be a very wise thing. I'm not exactly promoting items or abilities that would drastically impair or enhance the rate of experience or gold flow freely, but rather items that have other effects as well to balance them out. For one, I think that humans, who are able to adapt easily to their surroundings and are by nature quick learners, should have an ability that grants them faster levels. It is an inherent trait of the human race to adapt and learn quickly, and should be a prominent feature of the race in Quest. To counteract this very promising ability, and to keep the race balanced, humans should not be given very good scores in their abilities such as HP, MP, STR, etc. Another example would be the Elf race. They are an ancient race of great wisdom, but should not learn so quickly as the humans because of their dedication to mastery. In other words, Elves should have a passive ability that impairs their growth rate, resulting in slower levels. But again, to counteract this, measures should be taken to ensure that their stats are overall higher than those of the humans or other, less dedicated races. For example, perhaps it would not be a bad idea to have their MP or INT or even DEX increase on its own at regular intervals, say every tenth level or so. Another race that should inherently be altered as far as experience/gold are concerned is the halflings. Halflings should receive some kind of bonus to their gold that they are holding, such as a percent increase upon reaching every 10th level. To balance this out maybe it would not be a bad idea to prohibit halflings from storing their gold away, possibly because they are very proud of their earnings. The list goes on and on. In addition to Racial Abilities, some equipment should have poor stats, but abilities that heighten experience gained/gold gained. And vice versa. Concurrently, those pieces of equipment should be limited, as you have to have them equipped for so long because they are cursed or whatnot. This, of course, would be to prevent people from just equipping/unequipping gear for PK tournaments and/or battle or PVP. In addition to making the playing field more interesting, this would allow for more planning and strategic action, and on the whole I believe would grant more fun.
