For those who remember (and dont mind me using curse words) this was... *Looks over shoulder*... *leans in* This was RUSSEL's idea.

He wanted the monster rate to be a fight every step. Instead, if you are carrying bolas (yes, bolas, a 10g throwing weapon from the armory) in your inventory (forfeiting that slot), the rate is DOUBLED.

This will be a bit of an experiment for next version, so it may not stick around.
If it goes over well, lures and repellents would make another nice gold sink, the best lures being rather expensive (in the hundreds of millions for sure).

The problem with the rate is that it's really too random, and sufficiently high that you can get a monster nearly every step.  The effect wouldn't be noticeable unless you set a minimum amount of steps for no encounters, I think.

slow down a sec for a noob.... lol

ok so russle is a swear word? hows that work?

also, does that mean the higher the total weight the more chances of you hitting a monster? thats intense Smiley

repels and lures would also make it kool, also for those who want to go to their lvling spot in noslin without it taking forever to get there Smiley

What we're talking about is the monster encounter rate.  Like...sometimes you'll walk for half the map on encounter-able terrain and not see a monster...sometimes you'll be fresh out of a battle, take a step, and find another.  Dlorak's talking about reworking the specifics of how often those encounters happen.

ya i noticed that... maybe it could count the steps taken since the last fight and the greater number of steps the greater chance of fighting somthing...

like #steps = X and chances of fighting somthing are 1/100

well change that to X/100... further u walk the more chances of fighting

also, i wanted to know whats up with Russle being a swear word? and whats Dlorak talking about? Sorry dude but im not understanding what your saying...

Russell was an oldbie. He was, and still is as far as I know, the highest level character. I don't remember much of him and was gone a lot, so I myself don't understand why he would be a naughty word, I apparently missed something. But I haven't seen him in over a year, he quit supposedly because it was too easy to level or something.

It's doubtful you'll get anyone to explain inside jokes Jon. Just try to be around for the next one.

He's infamous for having suggestions that oftentimes are horribly out-of-balance, strongly favor fighters who level in one spot constantly, and basically involved making his life easier.

Though sometimes you could craft something decent out of his ideas.

Perhaps if there was a more notable delay before or after fights it would nearly negate the saved time, but in the long run you know it will reduce the time in between fights, and thus have serious value. Just an experiment. I hope it'll ahve a noticable effect, but we'll see.

Jon, my gut tells me X/100 is a good idea... a little tweaking with the number 100 and it could have a reduced chance for the insta-fights Shiris mentioned and reduce long walks without a fight... I'll toy with it in excel sometime and see. EDIT: and weight is not involved at all. EDIT: I dont understand what Im saying either, dont worry about it.

lol most of my numbers when i suggest stuff are going to be needing tweaking, and darn right its a good idea! lol. thanks for the compliment.

the nice thing with the X/100 idea is that its easy to tweak for faster/slower battles.... like maybe closer to the paths could be slower battles (u walk further) and further from the paths the mobs come faster (Shorter walks) Smiley

oh and what, if anything, might weight be used for?
