Different armor gives different amount of total def, and have different mods. So, yes, it is worth spending the money, expecially if its a lvl 8 rare armor.

Fire is fun to play with, as long as its not used on yourself. When the world turns on you, and there is no one to help, what do you do?You want to look in the well? *kicks person in the well*

Just to clarify on the total defense thing... Total defense reduces the amount of damage you take...95 total def reduces 95% of the damage the monster would normally inflict. So higher def is always good...but you can always trade off some def for more hp, mp, or whatever stat you may want thats on the armor. Just remember...you can go over 95 total, but it's useless since it will only ever use 95.
So if you see armor, you can look at stats and see what you want. Remember though, the armor number is added directly to total def, while defense points (from the "DEF" mod on armor and those you add from a level up) count as 1/3 a total def point each. So you just have to weigh the benefits of what you want when compared to mods and total def. Hope that helps ^_^

to be honest it really doesnt matter what armor you wear, just get the one with the highest number, if your a warrior, get the one with the highest HP mod, you cant go wrong, mp on warriors armor just helps with healing really, which is a good thing

I found that Alexanders Mantle makes a reasonable alternative.

Well since I spent time getting my def up and the corresponding increase in mp due to my required levelling, I have swapped to a zerkers with no problem.
All depends what level you are I guess.
