on the main quest website, you need a button that shows if the server is up or down, green for up red for down, anything, just so people actually KNOW that the server is down, rather than thinking its a bug/and error on theyre config

We had that before...and then somebody wrote a program to feed off that status reporter, and since we had no control over how crappily it was coded, after a few people started using it, the bandwidth started putting a strain on the server.  If we could bring it back safely, then yeah, it's a nice idea.

yeah, that was a nice feature they had on the quest homepage.  it only took what, like 6-8 months after the feature was taken away to take the "server status" link off the homepage? lol
And I remember people using notification programs off that notifier too. it wasnt that bad when the person who made it started using it, but when they posted a link to the file on the forums, then it kinda got out of hand.

it would be peanuts to make MR, but like shiris said, it would only be good if people didnt start to run programs based off the notification again, since it would put a strain on the server if people used those again.

im just saying that if either
1) the technique is on a webpage where everyone can see it, its not really a secret now is it,
or  2) you can't actually perform ninja techniques on websites, just talk about them, like how they are done, what they do, etc.  And if u talk about how they are done, that goes back to #1, meaning its no longer a "secret" technique.

Oh yeah .. we can make it a secret.
Nobody but the server has to see the code
*loves server side scripting*

So defacing isn't a ninja technique?
ask CNN who hacked their site last year ...... NINJA's!
and nobody knows how!
Is that secret or isn't that secret?

So you're saying hackers are actually ninjas? lol i really doubt ninjas decided "well nobody uses swords anymore, time to use a computer to do all my ninja techniques and missions" and then started hacking sites Tongue

The ninja's sneaked in and replaced a server ...
the chopped of heads on their way
because that is what ninja's do, without thinking twice

well considering its MR and I talking to each other and we don't work on the program, we don't have to stop talking Tongue
And MR, you said they hacked their site, not stole their server, lol, so you didnt explain how hackers are ninjas yet.

What do you do with a sword?  Especially a ninja sword, e.g., a katana?  You slash....i.e., hack.  See?

ok, but how would slashing/hacking with a sword affect what is seen on a website? even hacking at the server that way would just break the server, not hack the website.
