I'll give Mike Portnoy #2, I do think he is ONE of the best ever. His skills are insane.

Mildewed and smouldering
Strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know
The dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow
And strengthen our communication

jack of all trades or master of one? that question must always be answered first qwhen deciding on the skill level of one musician compared to another or all.

I believe it to be specifically important to do this regarding style and genre. Manye drummer s are masters of certain genres and could even be considered the best, but clearly that varies in ways too.... almost anyone can play the drums if they have rythm enough for simpler genres, but then there are ones that few bands even use real drummers (grindcore)... so the answer is fractured and nebulous and POINTLESS. I have many favorites so I won't even indulge you.

By a drummer who can play all styles and genres, you must be talking about Neil Peart, lol.
