I used to play quest a few years ago, I installed it on my new computer and now when i try to run it i get the following message

Run-time error '339'
Component 'cswsk32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

how do i fix this?
I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it several times

Okay reid..I just had this problem on my PC and spent hours trying to figure it out. Sounds like your having the same problem I was. You need to register the missing OCX file with windows. Register it using the command prompt as administrator. If done correctly it will say it was successful. Once its registered you need to right click the quest exe icon on your desktop and make sure to change the icon properties as explained below. This worked for me but i am in no way responsible if it doesn't work for you or if it messes up your computer. Follow the steps below if you want to try. Again use at your own risk.

1. click start menu > All programs > Accessories > right click on Command prompt > run as administrator
2. in command prompt type - regsvr32 cswsk32.ocx then hit enter
2a. if step 2 didnt work do it again and use regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\cswsk32.ocx then hit enter
3. If done correctly it will tell you it was registered. Next go back to your desktop and right click on the quest icon and click on properties. Look for Privilege level under Compatibility tab and click on "Run this program as an administrator" then click on OK.
4. click and run quest.

Sorry about the double post. Can we somehow get this solution stickied or added to here (http://www.questrpg.org/forum/index.php?topic=625.msg10452#msg10452 ). Seems now that more people are using Vista it might be helpful.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that makes so much sense. Unregistered entries in the regserv. ;_; I feel stupid now, because I use regsvr32 like... 4 times a day to register .dlls for application failures x.x

Can I just add that there's another, much simpler, solution to getting Quest to work on Vista?

Right click -> Run as Administrator.

Would be very helpful if someone would throw that on an FAQ Smiley

Really? Oh alright, I retract that statement. It's just it's worked on 5/5 Vista comps for me so far, from the exact same error earlier in this post. :|

It's at least worth trying before going to the trouble of messing with dlls though, maybe put it as a step 1 Tongue

Yes insert Lyr's suggestion as first step since it worked for her.
