When i'm out tearing up in thorold swinging my pick axe like there is no tomorrow (i'm sure that there is a growing crater out there now). I quite frequently find my axe catching on objects, Ice Pillars, Claymores, Staff of God (Does he know he lost it?) etc.

Now heres the problem: I have with me my Nauseator, to keep away the pesky monsters. Which leaves me with only 4 slots in my backpack. As miner i'd like to be able to drag behind me a cart, into which i can throw all these items and jewels that find. Not and infinite hole to hold everything, but say 6 or 8 slots for items.

Alternatively, could the backpack have a given capacity and each item has a certian volume. so if you had it full of staffs and bows and wot nots it would fill up quite quickly. But if you had a dagger and a short sword you could fit more.

I liked all of it except for the last part. That seems like a bit of a stretch for Quest. At least in it's current incarnation... not even the backpack that we already have is that realistic.

Yeah the last part would be quite a shift from what we currently have, but i'd love to have a mining cart Tongue

I think what would be even better than a backpack or any portable storage unit that is based on realistic item size would be a "cart" as you put it, since a miner would likely use that as opposed to a backpack.. unless that miner WASN'T going to the farthest reachest of his world's existence, lol.

And I think it would be cool to have different sized carts. Like, mabye 3 different sizes each with a different str requirement or something. Rough draft off the top of my head as follows:

Small Wooden Cart - 300 base str req., 5 additional storage "squares"

Miner's Cart - 700 Base str req., 10 additional storage units(?)

Dwarven Cart - 1500 Base str req., 20 Additional storage... tiles

Just a thought, mabye Mining level requirement would be more feasible, but, I like the idea that you have to be stronger to drag a larger cart with the potential for much more item storage.

We will stay slot-based, I personally never liked the extra thought of weight maximums. trying to follow the KISS rule.

Extra slots for a price would be nice. I'm inclined to simply steal the bag-based storage used in WoW. Maybe simplify even more somehow...  Possibly just give a larger backpack at no cost. 40 slots or something.
