I got an iPod from a friend who said it didnt work. Me being myself (and loving things that dont work) i took it and am attempting to find a way to fix it. If i can fix it, its mine, if i cant, oh well, hes got a new one anyways.

So iTunes was giving an unknown error (-69) which i have concluded is useless, however when i go to use rockbox i find theres CRC errors on the harddrive. My files are good, and it happens when i try to write files to the harddrive. So the harddrive is fubar. mostly.

Anyways, tried a low lvl format, tried checkdisk, soo far no luck. Im searching for a new harddrive, but in the mean time does anyone know of any utilities that can search for bad sectors and flag them so windows doesnt try to write data there? this way i can at least use part of the harddrive thats working, even if i lose a few gigs of space.

Any tips would be helpfull

Also, i am in search of a new harddrive. 1.8" pata / zif 40, 4mm thick, >40 gigs. If you know of any places that sell em and ship to canada, post sites and prices. Biggest capacity i have seen that will fit is 120 gigs, which i think is pretty good, for like, 180 or something. Anyways, links to stores that sell these suckers would be cool too

lastly, if you or someone you know has a bricked iPod and they wanna lose it my way, drop me a message, im sure i can use parts to Frankenstein something.

I have an old ipod, five years old, it doesn't even turn on anymore and when I plug a USB  cable into it my comp doesn't recognize it. When I first got it it worked fine, although the screen is a little scratched (not sure if it came that way or if I did it), but then I didn't use it for a few years and when I tried to use it again, it was broken. I have a nano now though so I don't really need it.
