Well as I'm not a mage, I talked in game about it and had some points from JM (the mage)

The cloak of magi has a power of 80, and 400 int. Now Jon said the trade off with the 400 int wouldnt be worth it because of the spells damage caps. And with the only 80 power its not going to do much protecting... I simply suggest raising the power to maybe 140 or 150.

Although i guess with this cloak a strong def mage could be made, I'm not sure as I dont play mages.
But if someone could help me test... Smiley

Defense scales really nicely with your armour power, so this wouldn't be great for a defense build. The only way that armour would be use-able is on a DEX mage that can use the higher int to 1-shot mobs. The problem is very few people are taking dex right now... Maybe theres something not very appealing about it. Personally, I feel it just doesn't scale as strongly as defense (plus as a mage I don't have to worry about mobs dodging my attacks).

dex builds dont work very well because your never guarenteed first hit except on weaker mobs. theres pretty much always the chance a mob can randomly be generated to have higher dex than you anyways, and when it does your other stats are weak enough that its gonna hurt you

compare that to, say, a def build you can take the hits from the mobs and still kill mobs that are 50 lvls higher than you.
