Weed is illegal because around 1920 guys who had a lot of money invested in oil and paper companies were losing a bunch of money do to the usefullness of hemp seed and oil. So they got the senate or w/e to pass a bill which made it so weed pretty much became illegal.
Actually it was the cotton industry that was worried over all the things that could be made by hemp in the early 1900's. (George Washington said the future of this nation's economy was hemp.) They saw you could grow hemp easier, more per acre and make more things out of it. By making THC out to be much worse than it is, they got law passed making anything containing THC illegal, thereby getting hemp under the drug umbrella they created. The problem was never fixed.
Prometheus, from my understanding, the weed you all have now, is potent because it was modified... by like... 5x+?
I dunno exactly, but that's what I heard.
That's... Not exact ly natural.
Cross breeding to create more potency on a large scale started in the late 50's. From there new types were created which were stronger than before. (The famed G-13 government strain) This hit it's peak in the 70's (ask anyone who smoked then and still smokes now) and since then some of the better types have filtered down to commercial grade weed. The commercial type that is mostly out there now is about average actually.
It's when you get into the "greeny" or "kind bud" that you start finding the stronger types, like the stuff in high times. This still isn't as strong as what was going around in the 70's but it's about 2x stronger than normal weed. (on a related note, ALL weed would be kind bud if it was grown correctly)
So.. no. It's not 5x+ stronger. If you spend about twice as much as normal, you can get weed thats about twice as strong. But basic commercial bud out there is about the same it was in the 50's, maybe 10% stronger at best.
