I'm having a problem logging into the game. I uninstalled Microsoft Flight Sim so I could move it to a different drive and after doing so it seems I can't log into quest. Here's what happens. I'm thinking of just reformatting.

I Click the Quest icon - Quest checks if server is online - Finds the Server brings up the sign on screen - I put in my name and password and click enter - Sign on screen dissapears like normal  - windows installer opens up - then I get an error saying Quest has encountered and error and must close

I would post the error log here but for some reason its not saving them to my PC

here is the shorter version of the error
AppName: Client.exe      AppVer: 4.4.0.1   ModName: msvbvm60.dll
ModBer: 6.0.96.90 Offset: 000383dc

I know this has to do with visual basic. I think a file that quest needed was uninstalled when i took out Microsoft Flight Sim. Have any idea's of fixing this before I reformat? And as a side note. I use an OEM version of windows XP, debugging doesnt work.

Maybe ...
try finding the dll on your drive and re-register it

open a command prompt and type regsvr32 c:\path\to\msvbvm60.dll

If you don't have it you can maybe find it online somewhere?

What i do is have all the DLL's for quest in the quest folder, that way i dont need to install quest on whatever computer, i can run it right from my mem stick.

Im uploading the "standalone" version of Quest. Ok finished uploading, heres the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ngan4dtzf9t

Chances are what happened is flight sim changed one of the DLL's and now quest doesnt recognize it. This should work for ya.

It registered it successfully but still didn't work.

Thanks Jon but i don't want a stand alone version.

And I'll have to try Sora's when I get home from work. If that fails I reformat.

Looks like some kind of dotnet crap....

Can you right click on client.exe

Right click
Properties
Compatibility
Run This program for Windows 95  (or try Windows 98 if that doesn't work)

and cross your fingers, hop on one foot, and juggle bananas.

Yes, I did try an uninstall its one of the first things I tried. I also tried the compatibility thing. Still a no go. Sad. Its definitely not the DLL being bad either cause I grabbed another one from online and still the same problem.

After talking to Keseka I realized it might be a good idea to mention that this all happens right after I hit enter on the sign in screen. The sign on screen disappears then nothing. Hence its shutting down as soon as the GUI tries to load.

***Update - I was finally able to get in game but I am still having the same problem. I was able to get this error file before my pc automatically gets rid of it for some reason. The only way i can get in game is if i delete this file manually before my PC does. Here is the windows error file. Hope it makes sense to someone who can fix this problem. It looks like a mess to me. And keseka says it logs me in everytime I try. I myself just can't seem to get in game unless i do the previous mentioned steps of deleting the error file before my PC does.

That looks more like information on what was responsible instead of information on the error.. Possibly generated by a registry error? I don't have much of an idea.. There should be more information, shouldn't there?

I would suspect the cause of it would be when you uninstalled the flight sim, something went wrong.. Maybe it's looking for something in flight sim's former directory and crashing when it can't be located? Again, I have no idea. ;p

aamd532.dll is for MD5s..
msvbvm60.dll is for VB..

Both should be easy to re-register.. If that doesn't work, you could always reformat or use system restore..

Okay, I reregistered the 2 dll's in the error file. Still the same problem. I am able to get in game which is weird. This is how i do it.

I put in my name and password on the login screen and hit enter. It gives me the error screen that says quest needs to close due to an error. I click on technical information for the error to find where it puts the log for the error. I delete that error log file manually. Close the error screens. Then log into quest again. Voila I'm in. Definitely an odd way to get around this. Very cumbersome (hence its a pain in the you know what).

I'll try the system restore and format as a last resort. In the meantime anyone else have any other idea's to fixing this?

Sorry bout the double post. I'm just wondering wasn't there an error log file that existed awhile back for quest. I need more information on this error to be able to fix it. The notepad error log above isn't giving enough information about the actual error that is occurring. Is there a program out there that will collect more than what's above?

After getting updated Microsoft VB files from Jack. The error file did change I posted it here but have since deleted it because I fixed the problem. I restored to an earlier date and then updates the VB files. Seems okay for now but Microsoft Flight Sim is back on my PC Sad Embarrassed Undecided Angry and i don't want it on here anymore.

just delete the file it runs under, lol. Yea it doesnt delete all its registry which can be a pain, but it should not cause any problems like the one you just had.
