A place to sell rares, simple as that, make a set price for rares.
Will fix the economy without wiping the game or gold or anything.

lets say a level 3 sells for 500k, and go up from there, a bit more for armors and potions since theres less of em.
Like a level 8 weapon. 20 mil maybe, a level 8 armor make that 30 and a potion 40

so players will have to spend more to get it off a player or else they will sell it at the store and its gone for good.

Simple solution for a problem that everyone talks about.

have fun talking about this one  Cool

It wont fix the economy, it will fix the over abundance of rares in game, but gold wise, it will make people with alot of rares richer.

yes thats the point hitme they found the rares they should get rewards for those rares not just somethign that will pile up dust.  Gold in quest is something to buy supers with or collect basicaly if we have this store and we impliment money draining things like the warp wich is a good idea. im using it to get to top of noslin and most of the time dont get 10mil before i leave.  So that is draining money sooner or later with enough of these the economy will fix itself and our game will become better and better making more people come and therefore making the economy even better.

I do like the idea of a rare store, though it will introduce a lot of gold at first. However as the rares slowly start to disappear things should even out. Slightly off topic, but im a fan of the gold sinks as well, but I cant see the warp idea taking any gold out of the game really, at 10 mil per use i can see 2, maybe 3 people on all of quest actually use it. Amar, Ares, and maybe the stray person or 2, i think if you wanted to implement the rare store we would need more effective gold sinks the would effect more then 3% of the people who play.

Yes it will bring more gold to certain people, but it will also make it so people will have to work harder for a rare, now a days people pretty much give level 8 rares away like popcorn.  They have lost their value, this will return the value to rares, and make it so we are not just giving every new player on a level 8 or 2 and letting em go on their way.

Pretty much.

The argument Im hearing is one of frustration in finding items that have no value. Thats a function of not enough people needing the items which we would solve in the long run by lowering rare drop rates...
The solution to put a minimum value on rares simply WILL NOT HAPPEN artificially (i.e. by anything other than player demand going up). The reason I can be so sure is that it puts upward pressure on inflation (aka devaluing gold).

Soooo, in summary: no demand --> no value.

Yeah, I completely agree with Amar.  a NPC to buy rares at fixed rates have been suggested in the past never sure why they where never introduced.  They would instantly give rares a value.  One thing that could be done "maybe" is have rares sell to the NPC in relation to how much gold is currently in game.  Lets say there is 50 billion gold total in game among players/clans/banks and the NPCs buys LVL 8 rares at .25% of current in game total gold.  That would mean at that time the Rare's would be worth 125m as a LVL 8.  (can be changed for armor since tend to be less armors then weapon's and even further for potion's.)  This means as the in game GOLD is increased as people play as does the value of rares.

dlorak. i see were ur going with the no demand no value. but the way it is now there is no demand for gold or rares. the other way there will be a demand for rares and in the long run be a demand for gold b/c people will be using it to buy rares that will acutaly become rare

The only way i can see rares being in higher demand was if they broke and were unable to be repaired... then people would need new ones to replace ones that broke...

But the only way i see that working is if the shop sold items somewhat equilivent to rares. That way those that cant get rares are not left with crap all for weapons.

May i suggest the rate rares drop is decreased? I know many would be opposed to this, but IMO theres more than enough items on the market now, and its only getting worse... every time somone finds a new item i think "oh great, just what we need... another <item name> "

Dlorak, i know your against a price floor, but there is not the demand for items, and IMO there wont be until a wipe, because anyone who plays has more than enough items, and those who are new are given what they want at next to no cost... just the other day Amar was selling a rare for 4 mills... thats nothing... i remember paying 25 mills for my lvl 8's

Some rares i was able to artifically keep the demand up (most noticeably being mage armors and wands) but thats done too, as i cant keep a huge stockpile of rares off the market just to inflate the price... And as more of these items are found, it becomes harder and harder to keep them off the market...

If you know anything about diamonds... Theres huge stockpiles of diamonds in storage. These are kept off the market mostly to keep the price of diamonds high. And everybody is in cooperation about it, so it works. In this case, people dont care or want to get what gold they can for their items, regardless of what the going price is now. And if you look in denaes, prices for items is constantly decreasing.

If there were a price floor, and items could be sold to the shop sure that would increase gold to the ecenomy, but with the growing number of gold sinks, thats not going to be a problem for long. It would reduce the number of rares, and as that number decreases the value of those rares would increase. Less items on the market makes those items worth more. So once most of the items are sold to the shop, when somone comes around looking for a <item name> its going to be actually worth somthing.

As for the comment on those with lots of rares getting richer... Suppose we had 1000 new players start tomorrow... and they all were able to raise money to buy whatever items they wanted, and bought all the rares in peoples stockpiles... Those with more items would get richer anyways... I fail to see how it would be different selling to the NPC, other than it would take less time. And sure once its implimented there will be a surge of gold, but that means people can teleport more, buy more slots for items in their player bank, etc.

Perhaps to counter this the clan tax could be boosted to 1 mill / week instead of 500k

How will this solve anything?  It sounds like the problem is that everyone is upset with useless nonsuper finds.  We need to realize that almost everyone still playing this game has a super.  Then when a few new people come to quest, we hand them lvl 8s in hopes that they won't get bored taking an hour to get to lvl 10, while everyone else in the game is over lvl 200.  This shop will turn high level players' stockpiles of rares into stockpiles of gold.  I guess this helps them buy more supers from one another, while the lowly new kids grow bored of trying to raise enough money to be mediocre.
