A flask (such as a duelers essence) can reach zero remaining health, and be sold to the shop for a 50% refund.
While leveling several days ago, I noticed this, but thought nothing of it.

During a battle in which you will level, use all of the contents of your flask for MP (I have not tested HP). Upon doing this, complete the battle, spend your points, and return to the map.
Once you have done that and returned to the map, your MP is set to the value you were at before you leveled, and your flask (which was used in battle and disappeared) has returned to it's former glory - only this time, with no healing left in it.
You may then sell the duelers essence to the shop for a 50% refund of the purchase price. While this is not much, at a lower level it could save you a small bit of gold.

EDIT#1:
The thought just recently came to mind... but I have yet to test if throwing up an item with zero power works..
What if someone were to throw something like that on danae? Although the stats are visible, it would only take a slight lapse in judgement to buy a rare empty flask, and be quite disappointed.
EDIT#2:
The flask also returns when draining it for HP in the level-battle.
I checked if it worked on a different type of flask other than a duelers essence, it does.
With that in mind...
Draining a flask to heal your MP, does not display a message box notification.
Draining a flask to heal your HP, does display a message box notification.
Should MP not display a message box notification?
How to create a 0-power flask:1) Be in a battle, in which you will level at the end.
2) Use the last of your flask sometime during the battle.
3) Win the battle.
You now have a flask with 0 power, that if bought in the shop, may be redeemed for a 50% refund.
