Well... Discussion should be used rather loosely. Mostly just a whim of mine, I don't know how well it'll be received, but here are my ideas.

I was thinking about how durability will supposedly work once implemented. (I know items can go down to 50 as is, but I'm talking about after they start being able to break.) I thought to myself, "Hmm... How could you base Durability on an Item's strength, but not make Noob items break every other time you use them?" And I worked it out in Chat with Hitme, though he was AFK so it was a pretty 1-sided conversation.

MODS!

The Durability System should be based on the mods offered by the item!

It makes sense, no? Mages don't use their wands for Melee... Unless they're retarded. So OBVIOUSLY their wands will last much longer without breaking, due the the massive MP mods offered by many. But that still doesn't solve the problem of Noob items breaking, so I thought of this little equation for it:

Durability = 100 + (Mod Total)
OR
Durability = 100 + (Mod Total)/2

As an example, I'll use a Soul Protector and an Archmagi's Wand, being that they're the only rares I have at this point. Tongue

Name:Rare Soul Protector
Power:74
Hpmod:90
Mpmod:200

So a Soul Protector's Max Durability would be 100 + 290 = 390 OR 100 + 145 = 245.

Name:Rare Archmagi's Wand
Power:1
Hpmod:10
Mpmod:1900
Strmod:10

So an Archmagi's Wand's Max Durability would be 100 + 1920 = 2020 OR 100 + 960 = 1060.

Of course that would put some of the lowest number Rares in the game as having super high Durability, such as the Berserker's Cloth or Archmagi's Robe/Wand. (The last two, mostly)

Power/Number could be figured into it, but it won't have that great of an effect on Armor and would make all of the Super Weapons have ridiculous amounts of durability.

May need some fine-tuning, but it sounds like a pretty darn good idea to me. Tongue

No idea how hard this would be to implement, soooo...

Anyway, post your Comments or Improvements on my idea or post your own ideas!

(PS - I made this a different thread from Dlorak's because mine deals mostly with the number itself, not how costly it is to repair, and you'd either have to use one or the other. With both of our suggestions together it would cost a fortune to repair anything.)

Why not just make one thread with all three suggestions?

you all make it too complex and its never gonna get implimented....

Plus it has been my experience that having more than one suggestion at a time in one thread is a bad idea.... a very bad idea... and.... oh look, popcorn!
