Welcome to Quest!
(NOTE: I'm keeping this thread unlocked as long as the topic is purely on the guide.)

  First, let's start with making your Account. You'll probably want to pick from any of the races with 5 starting INT.  This will be explained later on.  Okay, let's see what each stat means:

- STATS -
INT (Intelligence) - Starting INT in your class is the amount of MP you automatically get per level. (Even as a warrior, you will need as much MP as you can get for free to heal yourself).  INT also determines magical damage.

STR (Strength) - Determines how much damage you do.

DEX (Dexterity) - Determines who gets the first hit in a battle, as well as how fast you attack as a warrior (only minorly determines mage casting speed).

DEF (Defense) - Each three levels add to your "Total Defense." (Explained later)

HP (Hitpoints) - Your HP determines how much damage you can take before you die.  Warriors do less damage as their HP goes down (And you might want healing spells; that is why you'll want high MP).

MP (Mana points) - Used when you cast a spell.  Can be regenerated by meditating (click the button or press ALT+M).  Useful for any class.

Okay, by now, you'll probably have decided on a race.  Think up a creative but appropriate name, and give a valid email, and then... You didn't get an email?  Well, that's because the automatic emailer is off!

  If you haven't received an email, even though it says your character has been created,click this link:http://depression.homeip.net/questpasswd.php

- Now...  On to the game! -
Here are a few pointers:

* Okay.... First off:  STAY VERY CLOSE TO TOWN!  The father away you get, the harder the monsters are.  Staying close to town is something you need to do in order to survive.

* Talking, and being polite will be VERY useful.  People will help you if they get to know you.

* Kill a few beasties, then you'll have a little gold.  Go in the shop and buy some gear if you don't have some already.   You'll quickly get better equipment if you are polite to other players, but for now, use shop gear.

Now that you've gotten settled in, let's talk equipment.

-Armor and weapons!-
Now, you might be wondering what everything you see when you look closely at a piece of equipment means.

Let's see my armor:
Name:Rare Soul Protector  <- Name of the armor.
Number:74  <- For armor, this number is how much it adds directly to your "Total Defense" (To be explained later.)
Type:armor  <- Well, it IS an armor, isn't it?
Class:light  <- Means absolutely NOTHING for armor at the moment.
Durability:88  <- Goes down from 100 to whenever it breaks (anywhere from 50 to 0).  Items don't break until next version!
Quickness:0  <- Again, useless.
Weight:65  <- Useless.
Defmod:0  <- How much it adds to your DEF stat. (See DEF in the stats part of the guide.)
Hpmod:90  <- How much the armor adds to your maximum HP.
Mpmod:200 <- How much the armor adds to your maximum MP.
Strmod:0  <-  How much the armor adds to your STR stat. (Not total STR, which will be explained later.)

And my weapon:
Name:Rare Wand of Llirrem <- Self-explainitory.
Number:200 <- for weapons, this number is added to your total STR. (Explained later.)
Type:weapon <- Armor or weapon?
Class:crush  <- What type of weapon it is. This tells you what kind of skill you will train when you fight.  Try to stick to one type. (Will be explained later.)
Durability:92 <- See armor durability.
Quickness:0  <- Useless.
Weight:5 <- Useless.
Defmod:0  <- See armor Defmod.
Hpmod:100  <- See armor Hpmod.
Mpmod:3000  <- See armor Mpmod.
Strmod:0  <- See armor Strmod.

- Guess what? You've got more stats! -
Okay, then let's say you hit the "Detailed Stats" button next to the "meditate" one.  A new bit of info lights up the right side of your screen!

LVL: 264  <- Your level
HP: 410 / 410(+190)  <- current HP / Max HP (+Total HPmods).
MP: 4625 / 4625(+3200)  <- Current MP / Max MP (+total MPmods).
Weapon:Rare Wand of Llirrem/200  <- Weapon/weapon number.
Armor:Rare Soul Protector/74  <- Armor/armor number.
Flask:Rare Elven Wine / 8000  <- Flask (A potion) / how much is left.
Gold:11710 [25447644]  <- Gold in-hand [gold in-bank]
ExpTNL:231670  <-  Experience 'till you level.
Won/Fights/Deaths:13762/13837/78  <- How many fights won / How many fights total / How many deaths.
DEF:91(+0)  <- Base (by itself) DEF (+total DEFmod)
DEX:277  <- Your DEX level.
INT:741  <- Your INT level.
STR:3(+0)  <- Base STR (+STRmods)
Total Str:203  <- Total STR.  The higher this is, the more melee damage you do.  Determined by your STR stat (after STRmods) plus your weapon number.
Total Def:104  <- You want this to be 95 or higher.  This number is the percent of an attack that you block.  It only does anything up to 95, so don't bother taking it much higher than that.  Determined by one-third your DEF stat (After DEFmods) plus your armor number.

- Extra Stuff -
Okay.  Now that that is over with, we explain a few more things:

Question: How do I PK (Player Killing) and how do I keep others from doing it to me?
Answer: Right click until you see the crosshairs and click somebody near you to PK them.  It only works outside of Llirrem town.  If you click the box that says "Decline PvP/PK," nobody can PK you.

Question: What is a WoL or a DoN?
Answer: They are abbreviations of Super Rare weapons.  Here is how you tell what they are.
WoL
For the first letter....
* W is Wand. (Magic or Crush)
* D is Dagger. (Stab)
* J is Javelin. (Throw)
* P is Protector. (Armor)
* Bl is Blade. (Blade)
* B is Bow. (Range)
* H is Hammer. (Crush)
For the last letter:
* L is Llirrem. (Strong)
* R is Rothar. (Stronger)
* V is Velgrad. (Very Strong)
* N is Noslin. (Strongest)

Question: How can I examine people?
Answer: Right click until you have a magnifying glass cursor and click someone.

Question: I keep missing!  I'm a meleer!
Answer: Okay.... Did you stick to one type of weapon like I suggested?  If not, switch back or train the new one to one-fourth your level. Or..... If you are using a bow, try ranged attacks! They never miss with a bow!

Question: My spells keep fizzling!
Answer: Well, use a weaker spell until your skill is high enough to have the fizzling stop.

Question: How do you get those cool sprites?
Answer: http://www.questrpg.org/forum/index.php?topic=1257.0 will explain.

Question: I leveled up, what do I spend it on?
Answer: Anything but MP.  If you are a melee, I reccomend to not spend on INT. Just use your head.

Question: I can't add my stats!
Answer: The game just saved what you chose last time. Just use the +/- to choose differently if the need be.

Question: I have a DEX character! What do I add?
Answer: http://www.questrpg.org/forum/index.php?topic=978.0 Might be a good place to look.

Question: I have a mage! What do I ADD?
Answer: http://www.questrpg.org/forum/index.php?topic=667.0 Might be a good thing to read for that.

Question: I have another question that isn't here!
Answer: Post in the game or ask me on my MSN at Acesjaes@hotmail.com.

OK so here i am making a help thing for noobs and theres already one here! So hope you don't mind AJ I'm gonna add more to what you had.

OK I'm writing this for all the noobs out there, there seems to be a bunch of em as of late. So here we go...

Welcome to quest! Contrary to the name, there are no quests in quest. Why? because thats the way it is. So why play quest? Well for me anyways the quest community is the thing that keeps me here. Its a smaller community than most games, so you get a chance to know people, joke around, have fun. It's like a party that never ends!

Firstly, i cant stress enough how important it is to be polite. Please don't be rude or choose offensive names. Doing so will get you removed from the game. Don't use suggestive names. Don't go about dissing people, and they will have the same consideration for you.

Most of what AJ explained is found also on the Veggie Juice guide. Its rather short, a little out of date, but shows pictures of what stuff is, and is well worth a look. http://www.veggie-juice.com/quest.html

Now for a bit of what AJ missed...
I keep getting asked about is stats, so lets jump to that.
Stat allocation is very important, it determines what sort of charactor you will be. Don't worry if for a few levels you might put stats to the "wrong" thing. Not like other games, this game you have the ability to get well over level 1000. I personally have two charactors over level 650. Thats a lot of chances to pick stats, so if you accidentally put stats into something that you don't need, don't stress about it.

There is a main choice you need to make. Is that charactor going to be a Mage or a Fighter? Mages excel at being able to fight in harder areas faster.they level slower to start, but after a while will level faster than a fighter. Their damage is based manly on Int, so be sure you get lots of it.

Fighters, on the other hand, are a lot more complex in my opinion. Fighters deal damage based on a percentage of their remaining HP, and their total str, so therefore they want to hit first. Total str is calculated by the str mods of items, as well as the power of the weapon, and the points added to STR. Because of this, there are a lot more builds for fighters than there are for mages.

So, knowing that if fighters don't hit first, they hit for less than they could because their damage is based on a percentage of their remaining HP, we want to be sure we add some dex. If your dex is at 72% of your level or higher, you hit first. Fighters also want to add to str to hit more, and HP so when they get hit, their damage is reduced less. this makes for a huge number of possabilities for builds.

Another question i keep getting is "Hey, why cant i add more skill points when i level up!?!". Well i have a link for you. http://www.questrpg.org/forum/index.php?topic=216.0 If your too lazy to go there, basically the game remembers your previous stat allocation, so to add stats to the same thing. If you want to add stats to different things, click the - beside the stats you added last time to be able to choose new locations to put stats. This does not remove stats already placed.

I suggest a mage for new charactors. They are easier because its pretty hard to mess up three int, two of whatever you want every level. However, there are less mage items, and making a mage tends to get boring really fast. Fighters are more complicated, but also more interesting.

Thats prolly it, i will add more if i keep getting asked similar questions.
